K2 Services is an Ozone Depleting Substances (ODS) Contractor specializing in the evacuation of ODS material from residential appliances. Sometimes this service is referred to as Freon Removal. Why do we need to remove and properly dispose of ODS material? Simply put to help save our planet for future generations and to fulfill our United Nations commitment of the Montreal Protocol.
The Montreal Protocol on Substances that Deplete the Ozone Layer (a protocol to the Vienna Convention for the Protection of the Ozone Layer) is an international treaty designed to protect the ozone layer by phasing out the production of numerous substances that are responsible for ozone depletion, as well as, safely and effectively remove those substances at the end of use lifecycle. As a result of the international agreement, the ozone hole in Antarctica is slowly recovering.
“Perhaps the single most successful international agreement to date has been the Montreal Protocol.”
K2 Services has been performing CFC removal since 2016. We are the only contractor allowed to remove ODS from discarded appliances at municipal facilities in Metro Vancouver. We have been expanding and provide these services to other municipalities outside of Metro Vancouver, salvage yards and recycling facilities in the lower mainland. K2 Services also has operations on Vancouver Island and is the preferred ODS contractor for the Capital Regional District.
K2 Services is well versed in the operations and requirements that are involved in the handling of refrigerants. We have a combined 10 years of safe removal of ODS material and ammonia fridge decommissioning. K2 Services is very aware of the environmental impact of ODS and we ensure that the work is completed efficiently and effectively. Depending on the needs of your facility, we would come on a schedule basis to evacuate the ODS material from the residential appliances, mark them as safe to be sent to scrap metal and we take care of the proper destruction of the ODS material.
K2 Services is pleased to announce we have started decommissioning of 1 lbs. propane cylinders. K2 Services is currently working with Municipalities, Recycling societies on Vancouver Island and in Metro Vancouver to ensure these items are properly decommissioned. We are fully trained and certified to effectively decommission propane and butane cylinders. K2 Services has a Comprehensive Liability Policy of $5,000,000 to cover our operations. Our environmental friendly process, involved reclaiming any excess liquid propane, evacuating any remaining vapour and crushing the cylinders for the end of life cycle on these items.
K2 Services can offer mobile services, whereby we bring a processing trailer to your facility and decommission the cylinders on a schedule basis. Or we can provide pick up service where we would come to your facility and removed the totes of cylinder and process offsite.
To the best of our knowledge, K2 Services is the only company in the province of BC that can handle the 1 lbs. propane cylinders in an environmentally acceptable way that meets the Ministry of Environment regulations with regards to the Hazardous Waste Regulation (HWR). If you are a large organization, municipality, or recycling centre, K2 Services would like to hear from you. Please contact us and together we can ensure these items are being properly decommissioned in the most environmentally safe manner.
